Ayurvedic Golden Milk Recipe

Traditional Ayurvedic Medicinal Recipe

‘Golden Milk’

This traditional Ayurvedic healing recipe is an ancient tonic that has been used to support the immune system, help reduce inflammation, promote healthy menstruation, and improve digestion and circulation for thousands of years.

Turmeric is native to India and South Asia and recognisable by its bright yellow colour. It is one of natures most antioxidant-rich, immune-enhancing and anti-inflammatory herbs that we can ingest. The Curcumin that is naturally found in turmeric has strong antioxidant properties and is an effective antibacterial agent when applied topically (you can even rub it into open cuts to help them seal).

This tonic is best brewed at night as a ritual to help I aid relaxation and support sound sleep.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup organic milk (can substitute coconut, almond, or hemp milk)

  • ½ tsp organic turmeric powder

  • Pinch of ginger (freshly ground or powdered)

  • Large pinch cinnamon powder

  • 1 tsp organic ghee or coconut oil (to prevent constipation )

  • Small shake of black pepper (to increase absorption)

Optional:

  • Small pinch of saffron (optional)

  • Organic raw honey, maple syrup or raw sugar to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  • Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat

  • Once warm, slowly add the ghee and spices while stirring until the spices have fully absorbed into the milk or there are no powdery chunks ( I use a whisk)

  • Remove from heat, sweeten to taste, serve and enjoy.

Note: When using honey, it’s important never to add it directly into the saucepan as heated honey becomes toxic and hard on the digestive system.
